Custom Design with Hand Quilting
Custom design and hand quilting take considerable time to
perform. To design, select colors, piece the top, and hand
quilt the quilt will take from three to six months depending
on the complexity of the block and quilting patterns used.
The following price chart will give you an idea of the cost of
such a project.

Hand Quilting Your Quilt
Are you like many of my quilting friends who love to piece
tops, but, hate to quilt or do you have a quilt top made by
an aunt, uncle or grandmother that just never finished its
journey to become a finished quilt? I can help you. I can
hand quilt your top for you.
This process involves many stages of preparation:
First you would have to wash and iron your quilt top to be
sure the colors in the fabric do not run or bleed into each
other. Then you would send the quilt top (along with your
batting, backing material, edging, special stencils, and
thread color specifications if desired) to me. Or you could
just send the quilt top to me, then by phone, we would
discuss quilting pattern, batting type, backing and thread
color before starting the project. Or you can just send the
top and let the rest up to me.
If you leave it all to me, I will do the following:
1 - Select the quilting pattern or stencils and thread color.
2 - The quilting pattern will be marked on the top.
3 - The top will be sandwiched with a layer of batting and a
backing material.
4 - The sandwich will be basted so that the top, batting and
backing do not move while being quilted.
5 - The basted quilt could be installed on a frame or in a
hoop. Since I am a lap quilter, I would install a section of
the sandwiched quilt in the hoop, quilt that section and
then move the hoop to the next area to be quilted.
6 - The quilt thread will be cut in 18 inch lengths.
7 - The quilting is completed.
8 - The quilt edges will be bound (unless you wish to do
this yourself).
9 - The quilt is boxed and shipped.
You can see the complexity of just quilting a top. The
following chart will explain the charges for each service
required for the project.

Let's say you want a King Sized top hand quilted. Using the
above pricing schedule, if you select the quilting pattern,
supply the stencils, sandwich and baste the quilt and bind it
after getting it back, the minimum charge would be that
given for just the hand quilting with black or white thread,
which is $400 dollars for a King Sized quilt, plus $30 for
shipping & insurance.. If you needed all the services with
black or white thread, polyester batting, Muslin backing
and straight edge binding for a King Sized quilt, the cost
would be $595, plus $30 for shipping and insurance.
