Meet The Artist - Joy Fritz
I first learned to quilt in
1965 on a hand built
quilting frame - circa
1946 - owned by my
mother-in-law, which I
still have and use
every so often.  I didn't
do much quilting until
about 19 80, when I
took a lap quilting
class that was held
during lunch time by a
quilter close to the
office where I worked
full time.  I've been at it
ever since and have
completed over 116
quilts of all kinds, most
of them hand quilted.
Here I am with my 1st place ribbon for my Green Hawaii
wall hanging entered in the Gassaway Women Club Craft
show in Sutton WV

I have taken part in and won awards at quilting shows and competitions at:
  •       The Heritage Craft Center of the Eastern Panhandle, Inc, 2001 Quilting
Exhibition/Competition "Quilting: A Legacy of Love" in Martinsburg,WV, where I was
awarded a First Place Ribbon for a Hand applique'd /hand quilted wall hanging and a Third
Place Ribbon for a hand quilted full size bed quilt.
  • The West Virginia State Folk Festival and Craft Show at Glenville, where I earned several
    Viewer's Choice Awards.
  • The Gassaway WV Women's Club Craft Show , where I earned two First Place Ribbons
and a Second Place Ribbon for my quilted wall hangings.

I have also participated in quilt competitions at the Prince George's County Fair in Maryland, the
2nd Biennial Juried Craft Exhibition held by The Heritage Craft Center of the Eastern Panhandle,
Inc. in Martinsburg WV. and the 2005 Stonewall Jackson Heritage Arts and Crafts Jubilee in WV.
Although I did not win any ribbons,  of all the quilts that were for sale at the Jubilee, my "Lone Star"
Quilt was the only one that was sold.

In March 1999, "Kathi's Quilt" which I made for my daughter's wedding, was featured in the
Reader's Mailbox section of
Traditional QuiltWorks magazine - issue # 60.
In September 2005, I had the honor of being juried into the community of artists and craftsman
that make up Tamarack. Tamarack is the nation's first and largest State sponsored community
of juried craftsmen in the United States. They select and display only the best hand crafted
products produced in the State of West Virginia..

I am also a member of the West Virginia State Quilt Guild, Thimbles and Threads Quilt Guild of
Glenville WV, and Crazy Quilters Quilt Guild of Gassaway WV.
I am happy to say that I have quilts bringing joy to families in Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina,
Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kansas, California, Washington, Minnesota, Indiana,
Connecticut, and Wisconsin.  Wouldn't you like to have one of my quilts bring joy to your house?
