Ways of Service to God
Through the committees of Christ Church United Methodist
Choir The purpose of the choir is to give God glory and honor through music.
The fellowship and love that has developed within this group truly shines at
practice and carries on to Sunday morning worship. A very important ministry
for the choir is the cantatas, which include singers from many churches in the
county.
Church Council This group meets every other month and is responsible for
the overall administration of the church property and program. All members of
Christ Church are members of this Council.
Council on Ministries Each of the other committees report to Church
Council and the Council coordinates the efforts of all in making ministry
happen. We meet every other month, then report our recommendations to the
Church Council.
Communications Communications takes care of our church newsletter,
“Reaching Out”. This involves getting articles, photographs, printing it ,
assembling, and distribution. It also involves maintaining our new web page.
Education This is a group, which is responsible for maintaining the Christian
Education for our church. It mainly involves Sunday School, but also provides
other opportunities for education and growth such as Summer Bible School.
Evangelism Bringing the Gospel to life is a focal point of this group. This
group oversees our follow up on first time visitors and making invitations to
new people to come to our church. They also organize spiritual enrichment
events during the year such as revivals.
Finance This group is responsible for keeping track of our ongoing financial
affairs. They prepare the budget, plan fund raising activities, count offerings,
and help us maintain a healthy financial picture.
Helping Hands This group works on chores such as replacing light bulbs,
minor repairs, etc.
Kitchen This will be a new committee to make sure we have the proper
equipment for our kitchen and that things are maintained and organized
properly. All the good United Methodist pot-locks depend on a good facility in
which to serve them!
Lay Leadership This is the “nominating committee” of the church. They
meet several times in the fall to prepare a list of candidates for leadership.
Nominations may also come from the floor at Charge Conference. They keep
round pegs in round holes and help everyone find a way to serve God.
Prayer Shawl This is a ministry to individuals who have a special need for
comfort. As it is created, the knitter prays for that person. When completed, it
is dedicated at a worship service and then presented to the individual. They
meet periodically and are eager to teach others to knit.
Sound System This committee makes sure that the sound system
operates effectively for our worship experiences. They operate the
soundboard and train people to use it.
Staff-Parish This is the “personnel committee” for our church. They are
responsible for overseeing the Pastor and hiring/evaluating church staff on an
ongoing basis. This group generally meets monthly.
Trustees Trustees are responsible for equipping, operating, and
maintaining our church building and parsonage. keeping a sound and
attractive facility makes strong ministry possible.
United Methodist Men The first Sunday of each month men of the church
gather for breakfast and fellowship.
United Methodist Women The women in this group meet monthly for
fellowship. They also organize many important ministries within the church.
These include the May Mother/Daughter banquet, recognition of graduates,
church picnic, mission pennies, and the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox program.
United Methodist Youth Fellowship We are reorganizing this
group. There are many young people in our community that need this
fellowship. We are working to create a youth center to provide a place where
they can gather in a safe, comfortable environment.
Worship Worship committee coordinates the many aspects of worship such
greeters, ushers, liturgists, children’s story, communion, and the nursery.
