Cherokee Legend
Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of Passage?
His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone.
He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the
rays of the morning sun shine through it.
He cannot cry out for help to anyone.
Once he survives the night, he is a MAN.
He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into
manhood on his own.
The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be
all around him . Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass
and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It
would be the only way he could become a man!
Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then
that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him.
He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.
We, too, are never alone. Even when we don't know it, God is watching over us, sitting
on the stump beside us. When trouble comes, all we have to do is reach out to Him.
Moral of the story: Just because you can't see God, doesn't mean He is not there.
'For we walk by faith, not by sight.' *
Christ's Cantina
Christ*s Cantina has been in operation for eleven months now. We continue to
serve those who need a good meal. We also reach out to others in the community by
having lunch available to people who work in Sutton. In return, they give a donation
that supports our ministry. This is why we haven't had to ask for a love offering since
early December.
We want to thank the many people who have supported the cantina with the
special offerings, homemade food, and volunteering.
Our regulars are Kim Smailes, Jan Frame, Dawn Wine, Jane Hickman, Tom
Tichner, Pam Hoover, and Frank and Judy Skidmore.
Feel free to join us any Wednesday, between 11:30 and 12:30.
Imagination Library
A new opportunity for pre-school aged children has come to Braxton County.
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a totally free program that sends any child
from birth to age 5 a new book every month. It is also sponsored by the State of West
Virginia and Braxton County Libraries.
Parents simply fill out the official registration and turn it in to the Sutton Public
Library. In 8 - 10 weeks the child will start to receive one book, addressed to her/him,
every month.
If you have a young child, grandchild, neighbor, etc., please help get them signed
up. Forms are available at any library in the county.
What is GOD Like?
A Fifth grade teacher in a Christian school asked her class to look at TV commercials
and see if they could use them in some way to communicate ideas about God.
Here are some of the results: God is like:

A FORD He's got a better idea.
COKE He's the real thing.
HALLMARK CARDS He cares enough to send His very best.
TIDE He gets the stains out that others leave behind.

SEARS He has everything.
ALKA-SELTZER Try Him, you'll like Him
