Christ Church United Methodist Sutton WV - Volume 3   Issue 6   May 2008
The members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry decided that starting in May, they will meet
only the first Wednesday of each month. For the first meeting, May 7th, we will be going
to Joy Fritz's home. We will carpool from the church at 6:30 PM. If you have any questions
call Beth (765-2266) or Alma (765-5283).
What are these women holding up?
They are brand new, heavy weight
soup spoons! Our United Methodist
Women unit purchased nine dozen
spoons (also known as "bouillon"
spoons) to have for soup luncheons.
The purchase was made in memory of
our deceased member, Theresa
McPherson. From left to right are :

It's just around the corner! On Saturday, May 10, 2008, we will be having out annual
special event.  The registration will begin at 5:30 with the dinner being served at 6 p.m.
followed by a special program. Some willing men will serve a delicious meal.

We must ask you to make a reservation for two reasons.  First, we need to know how
much food to prepare and second, space may be limited (due to the youth center's
equipment stored in the alcove, often used for overflow).

The dinner is $6.00 for women and teens and $4.00 for children under twelve years of
age.  You may pay at the door.  We will have door prizes, favors and a great time!

So, call right now while you have it fresh on your mind.  Make your reservation by calling
Lillie Robinson at 765-5157
The same happy seven women are holding up
some of the many items the whole church has
been collecting this past month.  Each year our
Wesleyan District is assigned to specific state
missions to help in various ways.

This year the missions were Scott's Run
Settlement House (Osage) and Heart and Hand
House, Inc. in Barbour County.  The"Needs List"
has a variety of items on it.  These items range
from household, personal care and baby items to
carpentry tools and office supplies.

Both missions listed baby items, which our local
United Methodist Women unit chose to
emphasize.  The unit coordinated this
church-wide collection.  So, thanks to all who
donated a layette item or disposable
diapers/baby wipes.

With your help, we filled a grocery cart.  the items
were divided up between the two missions and
taken Saturday, April 26, 2008 to the districts's
C.O.M.E. (Celebration of Mission Event) held at
the Quiet Dell United Methodist Church off I-79N.
there were nine C.O.M.E. events going on the
same date in various locations throughout the
state of West Virginia.

Other items from our church were donated for
the auction held at Quiet Dell.  Thank you for any
donation you may have given to the auction.

Almighty God, we pause to reflect on Your character as we seek
wisdom for such a time as this.

In these unsafe days, You remain all-powerful and able to
protect;

In these uncertain times, You remain all-knowing, leading us
aright;

In the unprecedented events we're facing, You remain
absolutely sovereign.

Our times are in Your hands.

Therefore, our dependence on You, is total, not partial
. . . our need for Your forgiveness is constant
. . . our gratitude for Your grace is profound
. . . our love for You is deep.

We ask that You guard and guide our President and all who
serve the people of these United States.

May uncompromising integrity mark their lives.

We also ask that You unite us as truly "one nation,
under God." May genuine humility return to our ranks.

And may that blend of integrity and humility
heal our land.

In our Lord's name we pray,  Amen.
