The West Virginia Conference sponsors the annual Celebration of Mission Event (C.O.M.E.)
in each of the nine districts. Our state supports Volunteers in Mission, the four Church &
Community Ministries, and the eight Mission Projects. In Wesleyan District, our church
participates in the Event held at Quiet Dell U.M. Church (Mt Clare,WV), located right off I-79,
at exit 115, on Saturday, April 26th. The Mission Projects that churches in the Wesleyan
District are to emphasize this year include: Scott's Run Settlement (Osage, WV near
Morgantown) and Heart and Hand House, Inc. in Barbour County.

Over the years, our church has participated and supported these efforts in various ways.
Items have been made and donated to the auction held at the C.O.M.E. Several of our
parishioners have attended the activities of the day. I am sure Christ Church United
Methodist Church will support the conference's missions again this year. You will hear more
about this from Pastor Doug.

Our local unit of the United Methodist Women would like to coordinate a church-wide drive
for baby items to be donated to the above two named mission projects.

For the next month, a container will be placed by the front door. If you would like to be a part
of this drive, please drop new layette items such as crib linens, baby blankets, clothing,
towels, bibs, washcloths, bottles, formula, Baby Wipes or any size Pampers or other
disposable diapers. In April these items will be taken to the Quiet Dell event. If you have
questions, please call Ruth Mooney,  765-7478
June Nonnenberg, President of the Wesleyan District UMW, has announced the dates and
locations of upcoming events.

The first opportunity in which our local unit may participate is the Spring Meeting.  This
district meeting will be held on April 12th at Otterbein UMC in Elkins, beginning at 10:00
a.m.  The speaker will be Belinda Toms from Tyrand parish.

The next opportunity to be with other Methodist women will be the retreat held at Cedar
Lakes near Ripley.  It is called the Spiritual Growth Retreat.  It will be the 49th annual
retreat.  One may go mid-week on April 17th and 18th (Thursday & Friday) or on the
weekend, April 19th and 20th (Saturday & Sunday).  Participants spend the night.  The
speaker for the retreat will be Rev. K. Almond and the theme will be "To Know god is to be
Bible Women".  Any woman from our church would be spiritually lifted from this experience.

Also in April is the annual Celebration of Mission Event (C.O.M.E.).  It will be held at Quiet
Dell United Methodist Church (I-79, Exit 115) on Saturday, April 26th.  This is a
church-wide, conference-wide event which is organized by district.

In July, the annual School of Christian Mission, will be held at WV Wesleyan College, July
17, 18 and 19.  The themes for the school include:  I Believe in Jesus, Israel & Palestine,
Native Americans.  There is also a Children's School held at the same time.  Participants
stay in the dorm, local hotels or may commute.

On September 27th, United Methodist Women in Wesleyan District will attend the Fall
meeting.  This meeting will be held at Smith Chapel UMC near Bridgeport, WV.  Phyllis
Croston will be the speaker. Our state meeting will be the Conference's Annual Meeting of
the United Methodist Women held in Wheeling on October 24-25, 2008.  There is the
possibility of a chartered bus to transport those interested.

In November the Officers' Training/Day Apart meeting will be held on November 8 at
Vincent Memorial UMC in Nutter Fort.

If you are interested in attending any of these activities please contact
 Ruth Mooney, ruthellenwv@hotmail.com or 765-7478.
