Christ Church United Methodist Sutton WV - Volume 3 Issue 5 April 2008
Several people have wondered why the choir no longer wears choir
robes.
There are a number of reasons:
1 * They are hot.
2 * They are in bad repair.
3 * Our choir has grown to the point that there are not enough
robes to fit everyone.
4 * The robes are at least 15 to 20 years old
5 * Pastor Doug prefers we not wear robes all the time, they give
a more formal atmosphere. He would not object to having robes
for special services/occasions.
If someone would like to donate money for a choir Robe Fund, we
could order new robes and wear them occasionally. When purchased
15-20 years ago, the robes were in the $8000 to $10,000 range for
about 20 robes and stoles. Today*s cost would be considerably higher,
and we would need to purchase at least 30 robes.
If you would like more information or have further questions, please talk
with Pastor Doug or Judy Skidmore

In case you haven't been paying attention to the government*s latest
infringement on your freedom, analog TV as we have known it for all
our lives is about to disappear. It will be replaced by the new digital
TV. All TV transmitters that now send out analog signals will be turned
off about February 17, 2009. This means that you will not be able to
receive TV signals - unless you are connected to a cable or satellite
system - without either buying a new digital TV, or a Digital to analog
converter box.
According to the sales staff at Best Buy, the cost of the box you will
need to convert your TV is going to be $80-$130. So, in order to make
you feel better, the government is giving away a rebate coupon worth
$40.00 to help defray the 80-130 dollars you have to put out of your
pocket for each TV you may have that needs a converter. You must
have a separate converter for each TV. But you can only get two
coupons per house hold , so if you have three TV's you'll have to pay
full price for the third one. If you wish to obtain a coupon go to the
following web site: https://www.dtv2009.gov/AboutProgram.aspx
It is easy to apply and only takes a few minutes, but beware the
coupon is only good for 30 days from time of issue, so if you get two,
be sure to use them within 30 days of receipt.
